The research profile of the Department of Educational Sciences and Psychology is essentially characterized by two main areas:

Empirical Educational Research

The profile of empirical educational research, understood in a broader sense, includes a variety of perspectives and formats such as large-scale assessments, evaluation research, empirical knowledge research, teaching research and teaching development, school development research, historical educational research, youth welfare research, vocational training research, teacher training research. The department cooperates with other departments of the TU Dortmund University, which are also engaged in empirical educational research.

Applied Social Research

In this focus, the insitutes of Educational Sciences and Psychology work together, which are not genuinely involved in empirical educational research. The special focus here is on the areas of socialization research, gender research, inequality research, childhood research, youth welfare research, youth culture research, age research, etc.
