Studying to be a teacher?

In the area of educational sciences, the Department of Educational Science and Psychology accompanies students in the teacher training program in all teaching positions through the basic areas of educational science, general didactics and school pedagogy. Furthermore, in the Bachelor's and/or Master's degree there are profile courses tailored to the individual types of schools, in which students deal with specific questions and problems of their teaching profession.

Occupational fields

The teacher training program at the TU Dortmund University is characterized by its modern conceptualization and interdisciplinarity. It is possible to study one of the following teacher training profiles according to the Teacher Training Act 2009 of the state of NRW:

  • Elementary school teaching (G)
  • Teacher training at secondary schools and comprehensive schools (HRSGe)
  • Teacher training at grammar schools and comprehensive schools (GyGe)
  • Teaching training at vocational colleges (BK)
  • Teacher training for special needs education (SP)

The teacher training program is divided into a bachelor's and master's program. In the bachelor's program, students acquire basic subject-specific and pedagogical competencies and encounter the working environment of schools during the orientation internship. In the master's program, this knowledge is deepened and extensive teaching experience is made possible in the internship semester. The study program aims at the completion of the Master of Education (M.Ed.), with which the teacher traineeship can be started.
